Unsurpassed
Kaolin
There are many
types of clay, all known for their purifying and healing properties.
Clays are also exfoliating by scrubbing and pulling from the stratum
cornium (the outer most layer). Due to poor formulation and abuse
of clay treatments, many people have had unpleasant experiences
with inferior concoctions.
A clay mask can be enjoyed by all skin types, providing it does
not completely dry on your skin, allowing excessive dehydration
and oil loss of the skin. Acne/oily skin types can enjoy the Cranberry
Mud Mask two to three times a week and all other skin types
two times a week. My favorite type of clay is Kaolin. Kaolin Clay
(China Clay) originally came from the Kaoling Hill in Kiangsi Providence
in China. A white powder insoluble in water and absorbent. Clays
are used to draw our impurities and toxins, as well as encourage
the very important circulation of the skin. Great for insect bites
and stings, it also is calming and healing to the skin. Composed
of silica, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium, zinc and other minerals,
clays remove old sebum and dead skin cells clogging pores, which
is a major culprit in the cause of acne, especially when the propinionium
bacteria is present. This remarkable clay has electromagnetic qualities
and attracts oils, environmental poisons and particles left on the
skin. If you are leary of using clay masks, don't be afraid of kaolin.
It is the least drying to the skin of all cosmetic clays used in
skin care products. In addition to Kaolin, the Cranberry
Mud Mask contains bentonite. Bentonite is derived from
natural clay mineral deposits providing additional detoxifying benefits.
The clay is put into water where the impurities sink to the bottom.
The water is drained off and the bentonite is dried.
Next enter cranberry extract, rosemary essential oil and totarol.
Cranberry extract, rosemary essential oil and totarol all exude
powerful antioxidant and antibacterial qualities, with totarol being
one thousand times more effective than tee tree oil in the anti
bacterial department. This unbeatable combination of clay, extracts
and essential oils offers more than just a detox of the skin, it
will provide a plethora of antioxidants, minerals, antibacterial
agents to calm, heal, detoxify and refresh even the most neglected
skin.
Clays have been used in skin care for centuries and are not going
away any time soon. The key is to recognize the benefits and possible
negative effects of an ingredient and create formulas that optimize
ingredients and protect the skin from any possible negative effect
these nutrients may have on the skin.
